About the
artist
Po Pin Lin was born in Taiwan
in 1970.
Po Pin Lin grew up in the countryside of central Taiwan. His family owns farms,
grows their own vegetables and farm animals. Nearby is an art high school and he
would often see art students doing outdoor art painting close by. Po Pin became
interested in watching those students doing their art works and began studies of
drawing and watercolor at the age of 7.
Po Pin came to the States in 1994 and received his BFA in 1995 then his MFA in
2002 from the Academy of Art University of San Francisco. The first class he
took at the Academy of Art University of San Francisco, "Composition" taught by
Mr. Hei Han Lui, was to use oil as the painting medium. That was how Po Pin
started to focus on oil painting.
With more than 10 years of his professional career as a teacher and painter, Po
Pin has won the Award of Excellent in the Oil Painters of America's national and
regional exhibition in 2001 and 2002. He has been featured twice in Southwest
Art Magazine and was named "one of the 21 finest American artists under 31". Po
Pin is also the cover story and the subject of a feature article in The Artist's
Magazine in September issue of 2003. He is also featured in Fine Art Connoisseur
magazine premier issue "The Chinese Academic Tradition- Po Pin Lin: From
Taiwanese Farm boy to American City-Dweller." Recently, Po Pin is featured in
Art of West magazine 2009 November/December issue "Young Guns."
Po Pin is now living with his wife and a toddler son in San Francisco Bay Area.
He is also a signature member of the Oil Painters of America, an artist member
of California art Club, and Signature Member of Laguna Plein Air Painters
Association.
